Florian M. Wurm: Geneticist by training, entered Pharma/Biotech in the 1980s. First transfection of CHO cells in 1983. First publication on gene amplification in CHO with Bob Kingston, when in his lab at Harvard Medical School. Joined Genentech in 1985 and worked with a brilliant team on the first products made in CHO (TPA, Herceptin, Pulmozyme, etc.). Became Professor at Swiss Federal Inst. Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland 1995. Continued to do research on CHO, HEK technology. Retired from Academia in 2015. Founded ExcellGene in 2001 with Maria De Jesus (Wurm). > 300 publications with co-workers.
