Enabling Pharmaceutical LCAs with PAS 2090: Driving Industry Adoption and Environmental Improvement

The publication of PAS 2090 in November 2025, the first international standard for pharmaceutical product life cycle assessments (LCAs), marks a significant milestone for pharmaceutical sustainability, providing a consistent framework for measuring the environmental impacts of pharmaceutical products throughout their life cycle. By enabling more robust environmental assessments, PAS 2090 helps organisations identify environmental hotspots, drive strategic eco-design, and improve environmental performance across the pharmaceutical value chain.

In this session, the PharmaLCA Consortium will share how industry collaboration is supporting the practical application of PAS 2090 through improved data quality, technical guidance, and the development of enabling solutions. Attendees will gain an introduction to pharmaceutical LCAs, hear key lessons learned since the publication of PAS 2090, and learn how the Consortium's implementation activities are helping organisations embed product-level environmental assessment into sustainable product development.

The session will also introduce the PharmaLCA Tool, developed by the PharmaLCA Consortium and AllocNow. Designed to support the practical application of PAS 2090, the platform will help pharmaceutical companies, CDMOs, and suppliers conduct pharmaceutical LCAs more efficiently and consistently across the value chain. Attendees will see the tool in action and learn more about its October 2026 launch, including a free version designed to make pharmaceutical LCAs more accessible across the industry.
