From Sustainability Targets to Supply Chain Transformation: How Lonza Capsugel Supplies the Pharma with Traceability That Scales

The growing focus of a sustainability-enabled pharmaceutical transformation has contributed to rising pressures to turn targets into operational reality. However, while industry ambition is set across targets and updated stakeholder-led standards, product impact is determined by components that are manufactured elsewhere. Much of the sustainability challenge is connecting and scaling the traceability and environmental impact of products that are globally distributed. Through Lonza Capsugel’s Center of Applied Sustainability, we are building one of the industry’s first supply chain platforms to generate impact that scales beyond our own operations:

• Embedding responsible sourcing into procurement, with 75% of our suppliers (by spend) undergoing sustainability assessments in 2025

• Driving supplier decarbonization to cut upstream emissions, with 25% of our suppliers (by spend) committing to SBTi

• Delivering customer environmental intelligence via product carbon footprint data (PCFs), with over 5,000 PCFs calculated

• Advancing sustainability-by-design in operations through renewable energy, efficiency, and waste reduction across our global sites
