Titanium dioxide (TiO2 or E171) has historically been used as an ingredient for foods, dietary supplements, pharmaceutical products and cosmetics. A recent precautionary opinion from EFSA citing uncertainties regarding E171 safety concerns could have far reaching implications for all these applications. This podcast will discuss the background of the current situation, potential alternatives and challenges, and the significant ramifications that will occur for EU patients and the industry if the EU Commission were to ban the use of this commonly used ingredient.
