Topical finastreide is a synthetic anti-androgen prescribed for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. It inhibits type II 5α‐reductase and its clinical efficacy is well established, with demonstrated slower progression of hair loss or enhanced hair growth. Topical finasteride has a statistically significantly lower impact on serum DHT with a similar impact on scalp DHT in comparison to oral finasteride, which leads to a positive impact on hair loss with lower probability of causing sexual adverse effects
