Butorphanol tartrate is a synthetic opioid analgesic and is used for the management of moderate to severe pain, as well as for sedation in certain medical procedures. It is commonly used in both human and veterinary medicine. In veterinary medicine, it's often used for pre-anesthetic medication or for pain relief in dogs and cats. In human medicine, it's sometimes administered via intranasal spray or injectable forms. The tartrate salt form improves its solubility and stability, making it suitable for injectable or other formulations. Product status: Under development, ASMF filed end of 2025 In product pipeline.
