BIEFFE LAX is a class IIa medical device with a laxative effect containing macrogol. PRODUCT The product is intended for the symptomatic treatment of constipation. BIEFFE LAX fights the annoying symptoms of constipation and helps prevent the formation of hard and dehydrated stools (faecal impaction). INNOVATION FEATURES BIEFFE LAX action is purely mechanical and takes place in the bowel. It is due to macrogol, a polymer of ethylene glycol, which is inert and therefore is not absorbed orfermented by the flora resident in the digestive tract. Macrogol can form hydrogen bonds with water molecules, thus maintainingthe water used for intake in the stoolsand opposing its resorption in the large intestine. It softens faecal bulk and facilitates evacuation. It speeds intestinal transit, by favouring peristalsis. Its mode of action is non-specific, independent from the pathogenesis of the disorder. Macrogol does not lead to electrolytic imbalances when taken with the required amount of liquid.
