Carton board is often mistakenly considered to be fully opaque but in reality, the enclosed product will still be exposed to a degree of light that is transmitted through the carton board. While small, the amount of transmitted light can still be enough to impact product stability for light sensitive products. Via the application of multiple layers of black ink (or other dark coloured inks) and a protective layer of varnish to the inside of the carton, light transmission through the carton board is virtually eliminated while the outer appearance is unchanged.
